๐ฉ๐ป๐ฌ Stop Planning & Start Experimenting For a Better Life
Anne-Laure, neuroscientist and author of โTiny Experimentsโ, shares why setting big goals might actually be holding you back and what to do instead. We explore how to replace goal-setting with tiny, low-risk experiments that lead to more growth, more joy, and less burnout.
๐ My Past Week
Here's a quick recap of what I was up to last week:
- Both kids were sick enough to miss a few days of school (and not the same days either), which meant this week was a bit of a mess. It seems like we're almost on the other side of this and hoping we can have a healthy streak for a few weeks before the next one. It's still crazy to me that kids get 6-10 colds a year!
- I recently joined a small group of four other creators who are all at a similar size/scale of their business. Back when I was running a company I was around other founders all the time, but it's been harder to find that community as a solo-creator, so I'm really excited to see what comes from this group and encourage anyone in a similar situation to try and find a peer group too.
- I love card games and have played cribbage plenty of times with my father-in-law over the years. However, when my in-laws came to visit last week, they taught us a new 4-player variation that doesn't need a cribbage board, called โCross Cribโ, and it was a ton of fun. That link might make you think you need to buy the game, but you definitely don't at all. If you have any other favorite 2-4 player card games (ideally of the strategic/trick-taking variety), please reply to this email and share.
- We ended up having to cancel a trip to Mexico last year because our lodging canceled on us. Since we booked the trip almost 8 months in advance, we didn't have much time left to use the United credit we had from canceling (it expires 12mo after booking). Part of the reason we weren't able to take a trip was that we were hosting my mother-in-law during all of her neurosurgery procedures, so I figured it was worth a shot to see if that was enough of a reason for United to extend the flight credit and to my surprise they gave us an extra year after we sent them a doctor's note. We're going to try and use it sooner this time so we're not scrambling at the last minute again.

๐ณ New Robinhood Platinum Card Worth the $695 Fee?
Robinhood just launched the โRobinhood Platinum Cardโ, a massive coupon book card with a $695 annual fee. It earns 5% cash back on dining (capped at $50K/year), 5%/10% on flights/hotels booked in their travel portal, and 1% on everything else. From an earning standpoint, it's wildly uninteresting, but it seems the goal is to present this as $3,000+ in โvarious creditsโ for a $695 fee. It's up to you how much you value these perks, but to me, they're worth ~$700.
When it comes to high annual fee cards, I much prefer ones that come with 100-200k point welcome bonuses, unique earnings potential and/or offer something I can't get anywhere else (e.g. Amex Centurion Lounge access). So I'm definitely a pass on this one.
โ๏ธ Southwest Offering Elite Status Match & Challenge
Southwest is โoffering a status match and challengeโ to A-List and A-List Preferred for those who hold elite status with other major U.S. airlines. You'll get 120 days of matched status right away, and if you complete qualifying activity during that window, you can extend it to 12 months. โRegistrationโ is open through 12/30/26.
๐ต $500 Welcome Offers on No Fee BoA Biz Cards
Three Bank of America business cards with no annual fees have increased welcome offers to earn $500 after spending $5,000 within the first 90 days. That's up from the usual $300 for a $3K spend, so you're essentially getting an extra $200 for $2K more in spend.
- โBusiness Unlimited Cash Rewardsโ
- โBusiness Customized Cash Rewardsโ
- โBusiness Travel Rewardsโ
Normally $500 isn't a big enough welcome bonus for me to get excited, but if you're able to qualify for the โPreferred Rewards for Businessโ program, you can boost each of those cards' earning rates by up to 75%. At that level (Platinum Honors) it'd push the Unlimited Cash and Travel Rewards to 2.625% on everything and the Customized card to 5.25% on up to $50k a year in your top category.
๐ฏ๐ต Rove Miles Adds JAL with a 50% Transfer Bonus
โRove Milesโ recently added Japan Airlines Mileage Bank as a โ1:1 transfer partnerโ and is offering a 50% transfer bonus until 3/31. I don't have many Rove points, so I can't do much with this bonus, but it's always great to see more transfer partners getting added to points programs.

๐ถ Three Reasons to Be a Parent
Coming off the heels of two sick kids who seemed nothing like the girls I knew the week before, I really enjoyed reading โthis essay from Derek Thompsonโ on parenthood. He compares parenting to being a permanent tourist in a constantly evolving foreign city that also happens to be your home. Whether you're a parent or thinking about becoming one, it's a really great read.
