πŸ“‹ My Past Week

Here's a quick recap of what I was up to last week:

  • I continued deeper down the rabbit hole of building my AI assistant with OpenClaw by going to the ClawCon meetup in SF. It felt like a throwback to the early Web 2.0 days 20 years ago and I had a great time. I haven't been this excited about a new piece of technology in a long time and can't wait to share more in next week's podcast episode. Also, I wish I could blame my AI assistant for leaving "[description]" in the newsletter last week, but it was my oversight after struggling to describe OpenClaw.
  • My wife and I each took our girls on 1:1 dates last weekend and it was so fun. I took one out for donuts and breakfast sandwiches and then swapped and took the other to play laser tag. We got paired with a 7-year old boy's birthday group, but she still thought it was amazing (mostly because it felt like outer space and she wants to be an astronaut right now). I clearly missed the memo on how adults should play, because the results left me and every kid with 100 points each and the other Dads ~18,000.
  • One of my favorite cocktails is the Paper Plane (equal parts Bourbon, Amaro, Aperol and lemon) and it's my go to for anytime we have people over (or just want to make a drink ourselves). So I'm excited that we finally got this set of Nick & Nora glasses, which seems to be the perfect sized glass for the drink.
  • It was so much fun to see our girls be so excited for dinner because of these 3D printed fork/chopsticks we made. Unfortunately, we quickly learned that the PLA material we made them with can't withstand the heat of the dishwasher AND has small grooves that are perfect for bacteria to hide in. Time to find some new things to make :)

✈️ Frontier Giving Away 5,000 Miles Per Person

I haven't flown Frontier in years, but they're giving away 5,000 miles to anyone who can show a screenshot of at least 5,000 miles with another airline. One-way flights start at 5,000 miles and they have free family points pooling, so it seems worth the few minutes it takes to sign up. The promo expires 2/22 or when they give out 70 million miles.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Capital One: 30% Transfer Bonus to Japan Airlines

Capital One currently has a 30% transfer bonus to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank until 2/28. If you have Capital One miles and are planning a trip to Asia, this could be a great option, because JAL has really amazing award availability when using their miles (it's how we got 4x nonstop business class flights this spring). Just keep in mind that you can't redeem miles for 7 days after account opening and miles expire 3 years after they're earned (with no way to extend).

πŸ›οΈ Up to 1,500 Bonus Miles from Airline Shopping Portals

Here are 3 easy ways to stack some extra miles on purchases you're already making. Expiration dates are in parentheses.

πŸ“ Rove Miles: 7x on Hotels, Referral Bonus & More

Rove Miles has the promos below today through 2/11. It's not clearly called out on their site, but after signing up you should see them.

  • Hotel Bookings: Earn 7x miles on Loyalty Eligible hotel stays, plus hotel elite perks and the ability to stack rewards with co-branded hotel cards.
  • Referrals: New users get 1,000 miles when they join (and 1,000 when they refer). Here's my referral link if you want one.
  • Gift Cards: 4x–5x miles on 20 gift cards, including gas, grocery, travel, and major brands.
  • Social Media Bonus: Get 250 free miles for an Instagram post with #rovemiles (one per user). Upload your submission here.

πŸͺͺ You'll Need REAL ID to Fly in the U.S. (Or Pay $45)

As of 2/1, you'll have to start paying $45 if you can't provide a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of ID when flying domestically in the U.S. If you don't have one, you'll pay $45 for a temporary flight authorization. Make sure to get your REAL ID before your next trip if you don't already have one.

🧠 Understand Your Personality with AI

After listening to this episode of the AI & I podcast, I checked out the guests' app Deep Personality. It's a fascinating AI tool that does a deep analysis of your personality for free and even lets you compare them with your partner. It does take ~45min to fill out all the questions, but the results were so interesting and they give you easy prompts you can use to share them with your favorite AI tool.
