💳 Amex Platinum Refresh (2025)

💳 Amex Platinum Refresh (2025)

Advertiser Disclosure

Amex just announced a major refresh to both The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, and these are some of the biggest changes we’ve seen in years. Fees are up, perks have shifted, and both cards now have over $3,500 worth of annual credits. Those new credits are able to be used immediately, but note that some might require enrollment, so confirm that you've enrolled before using them.

The other big change is that the annual fee on both cards is jumping from $695 to $895, making them two of the priciest cards on the market. The higher fee kicks in right away for new applicants, while existing cardholders will have the new annual fee kick in at their next renewal that is after 12/2/25 for business and 1/2/26 for personal.

  • $300 Equinox Credit
  • Walmart+ Credit ($12.95/month)
  • $209 CLEAR+ Credit

  • Free access to Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Club (with eligible Delta flights), and Priority Pass

Removed/Changed Perks: All prior benefits are being kept the same.

My Summary: I'm a big fan of the increased perks and I think conservatively it will be easy for me to get over $1200 of value from the card each year, so it's going to be a keeper for me. If you don't have the card, I think starting off with a 175k welcome bonus, makes it an incredible deal. Even better since some of these benefits are based on a calendar year, you'd get them in two different years for one annual fee.

  • Employee Card Fee Increase: Employee Platinum Cards now $400/year (up from $350).

My Summary: I'm not too excited about the changes here and not sure I'll get enough ongoing value from the Business Platinum to keep it open forever, but the massive 200k welcome bonus more than makes up for the first year annual fee, so if I were eligible, I'd definitely be considering an application.

💭 Final Thoughts

Amex has clearly doubled down on “perks for a price,” making the Platinum lineup better on paper while testing just how much cardholders will tolerate higher fees in exchange for a stack of credits.

  • The Platinum Card®: A great fit if you’ll actually use the credits for hotels, dining, lululemon, entertainment, Uber and airlines, or take advantage of perks like the Centurion lounge. But if not, too many hoops for an $895 fee.
  • The Business Platinum Card®: The 200K offer makes this a great welcome offer but I'm less excited about keeping these cards open for the long term unless the add more perks or start offering big retention offers.
