Amex just announced a major refresh to both The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, and these are some of the biggest changes we’ve seen in years. Fees are up, perks have shifted, and both cards now pack in over $3,500 worth of annual credits (if you can actually use them).
The biggest change is that the annual fee on both cards is jumping from $695 to $895. That’s nearly a 30% increase, making them two of the priciest cards on the market. The higher fee kicks in right away for new applicants, while existing cardholders get a short grace period (12/2/25 for business and 1/2/26 for consumer).

💭 Final Thoughts
Overall, Amex has made the Platinum lineup better, betting people will tolerate higher fees in exchange for more credits
- The Platinum Card®: Great if you’ll actually use the hotel, dining, lululemon, entertainment, and Uber credits. Otherwise, it’s too many hoops for an $895 fee.
- The Business Platinum Card®: The 200K offer makes this a no-brainer today, and it’s still strong for big spenders in Dell/Adobe/2X categories. But the weaker Pay with Points rebate is a downgrade for travelers who relied on it.
If you like chasing perks and can squeeze every dollar out of them, these cards can be hugely valuable. If you want simplicity, you might be better off with other options.
